One source inside the program considers Daniels the frontrunner in such a competition. If Darnold leaves, Daniels will immediately compete for the starting job against Matt Fink and Jack Sears. If Darnold stays, Daniels gets a year in the system. The move is not contingent on Sam Darnold going pro but is considered a win-win for Daniels. But it’s hardly a unique obstacle because Sierra Canyon star basketball player Marvin Bagley was reclassified last summer and enrolled at Duke. What remains to be seen is whether Daniels gets NCAA approval. However, sources at USC said Daniels has been working for months to reclassify from a junior to a senior.
